Spotlight: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Afternoon Tea London

This post shares an afternoon tea experience that was conducted in 2017.

Hello Steepers! This year I am starting a series of spotlights which will be shorter reviews of afternoon tea experiences that I went to several years ago. I want to give some love to these places, but not a detailed review because it’s been a number of years since I visited. So my experience may not reflect the experience today. Let’s kick it off!

In celebration of the 60th anniversary of the publication of Charlie and the Chocolate factory by Roald Dahl, my first spotlight is on: One Aldwych’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Afternoon Tea in London!

A Little Bit of History: Back in 2017, during a family trip to London with my mom and sister, we visited One Aldwych after seeing the Lion King at the Lyceum theater. One Aldwych hotel is located in the West End theater district, so it’s an easy visit if you are seeing a show. Until 1937 the building was the headquarters of the Morning Post newspaper. In 1998 the building was converted to a hotel.

The Experience: This is by far the MOST whimsical and fun afternoon tea I have experienced. It is one of my ALL TIME favorite teas. The desserts are not traditional for afternoon teas because they capture the essence of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory! You receive little chocolate milks in glass bottles and COTTON CANDY. As a big cotton candy enthusiast, this was a real treat. To my memory, the service was excellent as well.

As of Today: According to their website, The Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Afternoon Tea is still going strong! The price currently is at £70 per person.

My Rating: 5/5. So much fun for adults and kids alike. Even almost seven years later, I still think about it often.
