Halloween Afternoon Tea at AnnTremet Cake (NYC)

Hello Steepers! Today we are revisiting AnnTremet Cake! In honor of the Halloween season, I wanted to review AnnTremet’s Halloween Afternoon Tea and share my experience from last year. My sister and I went on the actual day of Halloween. Since neither of us are party animals, this was a fun way to get into the Halloween spirit while returning home at a reasonable time to watch some Halloween movies into the night. (To note, my Halloween favorites are in the “family friendly” categories like “Twitches” or “Halloween Town”!)

A Little Bit of History: AnnTremet Cake is a bakery and café known for its detailed, artistic pastries and themed afternoon teas. They have built a strong local reputation with their focus on unique, high-quality mini mousse cakes and a distinctive afternoon tea experience. They focus on low sugar and natural ingredients. You can see my review of their Christmas-themed Afternoon tea here.

The Experience: AnnTremet truly nailed the Halloween theme with their afternoon teas as they do with all their seasonal teas. When the afternoon tea stand arrived, it came with a dramatic presentation: a smoke display created with dry ice, perfectly setting the Halloween mood.

They offered both savory and sweets and scones as traditional afternoon teas, but they had a twist with the dessert tier.

The savory tier at my visit included two mini quiches and three mini sandwiches:

  • Tuna and Corn

  • Fig with Brie and Honey

  • Turkey and Cucumber

The desserts were where the Halloween theme shone brightest:

  • A mini Apple Cinnamon Scone

  • Spooky Mini Tarts (they had googly eyes which made them spooky!)

  • A very cute Halloween Sugar Cookie (a gingerbread man shape cleverly decorated as a skeleton)

  • A Raspberry Mousse

  • A choice of three of their famous Mini Mousse Cakes to share between our party of two. This is what the bakery is known for and their mousse cakes are gorgeous and delicious! They also have some Halloween/Fall themed specials, like a pumpkin mousse (which wasn’t available during my Halloween visit but I had it on another occasion and it was delightful).

Everything was covered with googly eyes and a little bit of raspberry sauce to make it extra spooky to fit the theme. For your tea for two, you don’t necessarily get two of everything, but you get plenty to share.

We also had our choice of beverage, choosing either a traditional pot of tea or one option from the full drink menu, which includes coffees and cold beverages.

Now about the service. Every staff member I’ve encountered at AnnTremet has always been exceptionally nice and welcoming, but the table service during the tea itself is inconsistent. The servers I’ve experienced when I go for tea often disappear, either getting caught up in the back kitchen or dealing with the constant flow of walk-in customers at the front counter. So sometimes this leads to delays or feeling forgotten while seated for the afternoon tea experience. Despite this minor issue, I really enjoy a themed tea, and they executing the Halloween theme well!

As of Today: AnnTremet has two locations in West Village and Long Island. They haven’t announced yet if the Halloween Afternoon tea is returning for this year. When I spoke to one of the employees he knew for sure they were doing the Christmas Afternoon Tea again but wasn’t sure about Halloween. You can make reservations for their seasonal afternoon teas at the West Village location here: AnnTremet Afternoon Teas. The Long Island location reservations lead to a dead link but you can check out their instagram page here.

My Rating: 4.5 Teacups! We had a great time last year even with the unpredictable service. If you don’t want the full afternoon tea you can stop buy for a specialized dessert and latte.
